GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has made significant strides in the QS World University Rankings 2025, securing the 344th position globally.

This marks an impressive rise of 20 places from the previous year, with the institute earning an overall score of 32.9.

Released on June 4, the QS World University Rankings 2025 reveal that since 2014, IIT Guwahati has climbed an impressive 257 places, from the 601-650 range to its current position.

Notably, the institute excels in Research Citations per Faculty, ranking 42nd globally, followed by Employer Reputation at 295th, and Academic Reputation at 480th.

Professor Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, expressed his elation over this achievement, stating that this year-on-year improvement in IIT Guwahati’s global ranking is a testament to the relentless dedication and hard work of our faculty, students, and staff.

“Our commitment to excellence in education, research, and innovation continues to drive us forward. We are proud of this achievement and remain focused on further enhancing our global standing and contributing to the advancement of knowledge and technology,” he said.

He also highlighted the need to address challenges faced by Indian institutions in internationalisation to further improve global rankings.

The QS World University Rankings, a crucial benchmark for evaluating institutions globally since 2004, assess universities on various parameters such as Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio, Employment Outcomes, International Research Network, and Sustainability.

For the 2025 edition, a total of 5663 institutions were evaluated worldwide, resulting in the ranking of 1503 institutions.

In India, 46 institutions have been ranked this year.

IIT Guwahati’s presence in 18 different subject categories further highlights its multidisciplinary focus and diversity.

As IIT Guwahati continues to advance in global rankings, it reaffirms its dedication to educational excellence and research innovation, setting a benchmark for other Indian institutions to follow.
