GUWAHATI: The management of IIT Guwahati said that the well-being of everyone is its top priority, and promised to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all, especially students.
A statement issued by IIT Guwahati issued on Wednesday acknowledged the ‘deep distress’ caused by the recent incident of a student death on campus, and said it understands the concerns of the student community.
The Director had a one-on-one discussion with the students on Tuesday for several hours and claimed to have taken cognizance of their issues and concerns.
The Director, who took charge recently, is committed to resolve these issues and ensure overall student wellbeing on this campus, the statement claimed.
As for the Dean, who has sent his resignation, the institute authorities have received his resignation, and are discussing the issue internally. A decision will be taken soon, the statement claimed.
To address the concerns raised by our students and prevent future tragedies, IIT Guwahati is implementing multiple measures, including enhanced wellbeing services.
The IIT Guwahati authorities claimed it is planning to expand its wellbeing services to ensure that everyone have access to professional support, including specialized counsellors for both crisis intervention and long-term assistance.
The IIT Guwahati authorities claimed that it is establishing peer support groups, offering everyone a safe and confidential space to share their experiences and receive support from their peers.
A comprehensive review of our safety and emergency response protocols is underway in IIT Guwahati. It includes an assessment of wellbeing resources to strengthen the support systems and enhance campus safety.
IIT Guwahati is also launching campaigns to raise awareness about wellbeing issues, reduce stigma, and encourage everyone to seek help when needed.
The IIT Guwahati authorities claimed that it is committed to open dialogue and encourage everyone to share thoughts and concerns.
“We urge everyone to seek support from our wellbeing services or campus community if they are feeling overwhelmed,” the statement said.
The IIT Guwahati community extended its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased student.
While acknowledging the concerns of the students, the IIT Guwahati authorities said it is crucial to prioritize academic continuity and maintain a peaceful campus.
The authorities requested all to refrain from protests and return to their classrooms.
