GUWAHATI: The pioneering SWASTHA project and state-of-the-art ISO 5 and 6 Clean Room Facilities at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati’s Centre for Nanotechnology was inaugurated on Friday.

The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries including S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Prof Rajeev Ahuja, officiating Director of IIT Guwahati, Dr Sandip Chatterjee, Senior Director/Scientist G, and Dr Sangeeta Semwal from MeitY, along with distinguished faculty members of IIT Guwahati.

Addressing the gathering, Krishnan hailed the establishment of the Clean Room Facilities and the SWASTHA Centre for Excellence as a monumental achievement for the Northeast.

“The young human resources of the region can now utilise these world-class high-end facilities available at their doorstep to pursue their lofty scientific and technological dreams,” he said.

He also heaped praise on the Nano Centre at IIT Guwahati for its contributions to society, commending the unwavering commitment of faculty members and students in realising this milestone.

Supported by MeitY, the SWASTHA Centre aims to revolutionise healthcare through advanced nanoelectronic theranostic devices, emphasising innovation and technological progress.

Prof Ahuja lauded the pivotal role of MeitY in expanding nanoelectronics innovations in the Northeast, aligning with the government’s missions of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Make in India”.

Speaking about the Centre for Nanotechnology, Dr Chatterjee lauded the creation of the Clean Room National Facility, certifying its ISO 5 and 6 standards, which will catalyse high-tech R&D and innovation in the region.

The inauguration marked a significant leap in promoting micro/nano electronic fabrication, supporting industrial R&D, and fostering collaboration between academia and industry.

With cutting-edge equipment and facilities, including Electron Beam Lithography and Reactive Ion Etching, the Clean Room Facilities will facilitate the development of transformative technologies such as OLEDs, photovoltaic devices, and microfluidic-based sensors.

Krishnan concluded his visit to the institution by touring the PARAM-KAMRUP supercomputer facilities, 5G Test-Bed facilities, and Research Park facilities.

The inauguration heralds a new era of innovation and collaboration, positioning IIT Guwahati as a frontrunner in cutting-edge research and technology development for the nation’s progress.
