GUWAHATI: In a bid to nurture budding entrepreneurs and foster economic growth in the Northeast, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati’s Research Park Foundation, in partnership with the Assam’s Department of Industries and Commerce, has initiated an Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP).
The programme, designed as a comprehensive platform for aspiring entrepreneurs, aims to equip participants with essential management insights tailored to the entrepreneurial journey.
The launch event, graced by eminent personalities including Prof Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati & Chairperson of IIT Guwahati Research Park, Manju Rani Gogoi Talukdar, Joint Director of the Department of Industries and Commerce and Amresh Kumar Jha, GM of Networks at State Bank of India, marked a significant milestone in the region’s entrepreneurial journey.
Prof Jalihal, in his address, reiterated IIT Guwahati’s commitment to nurturing a robust entrepreneurship ecosystem in Assam and the Northeast.
“Through the Entrepreneurship Development Programme, we aim to empower local talent, drive innovation, and foster sustainable economic growth, thereby transforming the region into a hub of entrepreneurial excellence,” he said.
The curriculum of the programme will focus on applying management theories, models, and frameworks in the context of new venture creation, ensuring practical readiness to tackle the challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurship.
With a capacity to train approximately 400 participants, the programme holds the potential to significantly impact Assam and Northeast’s entrepreneurial landscape.
Furthermore, participants will benefit from credit linkage support, facilitating access to crucial financial resources for their ventures.
Led by a distinguished team of mentors comprising faculty members from IIT Guwahati and industry experts, the programme promises a holistic learning experience.
The list of mentors includes Prof. Laishram Boeing Singh, Dr. Abraham Cyril Issac, Dr. Kuldeep Baishya, Dr. Abhay Pant, Dr. Sparsh Johari, Tridip Sarmah, Pompy Dutta Singha, Dr. Samir Baruah, Financial Consultant Mrinmay Pathak, and Sharique Hussain.
This collaborative endeavour between IIT Guwahati and the Assam government underscores a significant stride towards empowering aspiring entrepreneurs in the state.
Furthermore, the initiative complements IIT Guwahati’s broader efforts to enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Northeast.
