New Delhi: IIT-Guwahati has announced the launch of a four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programme in Biomedical Science and Engineering, marking a significant step in interdisciplinary education.

The programme, introduced by the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology at IIT-Guwahati, will be offered in collaboration with AIIMS-Guwahati and the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER)-Guwahati.

“This innovative programme integrates engineering, medical sciences, and pharmacology, preparing students to tackle future challenges that transcend traditional disciplines,” said IIT-Guwahati Director Devendra Jalihal.

He emphasised the programme’s potential to nurture future biomedical engineers equipped to lead advancements in healthcare and pharmaceuticals.

The application process for the programme opens on April 25 and will remain active for one month.

AIIMS-Guwahati Director Ashok Puranik highlighted the collaborative nature of the initiative, describing it as a milestone in shaping the future of healthcare and education in India.

“By combining the strengths of AIIMS-Guwahati, IIT-Guwahati, and NIPER-Guwahati, this programme aims to drive innovation in medical technology,” he noted.

The curriculum leverages cutting-edge advancements in genomics, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and nanotechnology, equipping students to become biomedical innovators.
