The Indian Air Force (IAF) has confirmed the death of two pilots after the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Thursday evening.
The deceased pilots are Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar. The IAF expressed sincere condolences and stated that they stand firmly with the bereaved family during this time of grief.
“IAF acknowledges the loss of Sqn Ldr Anuj and Flt Lt Purvesh Duragkar, who sustained fatal injuries in the Su-30 crash. All personnel of the IAF express sincere condolences, and stand firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief,” the IAF said in a post on X.
It may be mentioned that the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet reportedly crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district at around 7 pm yesterday.
This incident occurred shortly after the aircraft took off from Jorhat. The suspected crash was believed to have occurred in a remote hill area near Nilip Block under Chokihola.

According to villagers living in the surrounding areas, a powerful explosion-like sound was heard from a high hill shortly after dusk. The noise was described as extremely loud and echoed across the hills, alarming residents.
Following the incident, the IAF informed, “The Su-30MKI which was on a training mission, crashed in the area of Karbi Anglong, Assam, approx 60 km from Jorhat. Search operations are underway.”
The suspected crash site is believed to be located deep within a forested and mountainous area, far from human habitation, making immediate access difficult for local residents.
