GUWAHATI: Twenty-six HSLC and HSSLC examinations achievers from the Diring and Kohora areas under the Kaziranga Kohora Landscape were felicitated at the Community Resource Centre in Chandrasing Rongpi Village, Kohora, recently.
The day-long felicitation and career counselling programme organised by Aaranyak was aimed to guide students in understanding career options and the educational qualifications required to pursue them.
Distinguished resource persons Uttam Teron from Parijat Academy in Guwahati, Krishna Rongpi from JDSG College, Bokakhat, and Jirsong Rongpi from Harlongbi Velongbi College, Deithor, Karbi Anglong, graced the occasion.
The guests were felicitated at the beginning of the programme by Swapan Nath, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Firoz Ahmed, Head of the Tiger Research and Conservation Division at Aaranyak.
The event featured three interactive sessions for the students.
In the first session, “Preparing for the Future: Path, Approach, and Self-Initiative”, Teron encouraged students to work hard, be honest, strive to learn, and remain disciplined and punctual to realise their dreams.
The second session, “Career Planning – What? How? & Why?” conducted by Krishna, highlighted the importance of career planning and education as cornerstones for a successful career.
The final session, “Career Paths and Scope in Arts, Science, and Commerce”, conducted by Jirsong, explored various educational and professional opportunities based on students’ qualifications and choices.
Anikaso Englengpi, one of the participating students, expressed gratitude, saying, “The career counselling event has been an eye-opener for us and has broadened the scope for our career options and flagged the importance of education.”
Another participant, Sivoram Terang, lauded the event, stating that proper career counselling and guidance are very important for the students, and Aaranyak is doing a wonderful job in this regard.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Santosh Rongpi, President of Karbi Students Association (KSA), Kaziranga District Committee; Horiram Engti, social worker of Kohora; Bishnu Upadhyay, Headmaster of CRMMES; Moina Kramsapi, an entrepreneur; and three Rong Asar (village headmen) Romesh Tokbi of Englepathar village, Sivoram Terang of Sivoram Terang village, and Gulapsing Engti of Bakring Engti village.
Several village elders and representatives were also present.
The initiative, supported by IUCN and KfW, highlights the importance of community-driven efforts in bridging education-career gaps in semi-urban and rural areas.
Aaranyak’s team members, including Jayanta Kumar Roy, Sarlongjon Teron, Joshna Terangpi, Beauty Terangpi, Avinash Phangcho, Sarlongki Teron, Rangsina Phangcho, Purno Timung, Prokash Engti, and Kristi Bora, worked tirelessly to organise the event.
