Guwahati: In response to the ongoing attacks on the Hindu minority in strife-torn Bangladesh, hotels across all three districts of Assam’s Barak Valley have decided that they would not host any Bangladeshi nationals.
This decision will remain in effect until attacks on Hindus and other minority groups in the neighbouring country stop.
Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in the neighbouring country, Barak Valley Hotel and Restaurant Association president Babul Rai said, “We cannot accept this in any way. We have, therefore, decided to stop hosting any national from that country in all the three districts of Barak Valley until the situation improves and atrocities on the Hindus stop.”
Notably, Barak Valley, which comprises three districts of Cachar, Sribhumi (formerly Karimganj) and Hailakandi, shares a 129-km-long border with Bangladesh’s Sylhet region.
Rai added that only if the situation improves, the Association can reconsider their decision.
Recently, the Bajrang Dal had asked organizers of the global expo in Silchar to shut down two stalls selling Bangladeshi products as a protest against the atrocities committed against Hindus in the neighbouring country.
Bajrang Dal protestors had also gone to the Bangladesh Visa Centre in Silchar and demanded that the name ‘Bangladesh’ be removed from the signboard.

All three districts of Barak Valley have witnessed widespread protests against the alleged atrocities committed against minorities in Bangladesh and the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmaya Krishna Das.
