Guwahati: Assam is set to add a major cultural landmark with Union Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled to inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha, the largest auditorium in the Northeast, during his visit to Guwahati on December 29, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The landmark facility, with a seating capacity of 5,000, is expected to significantly enhance Assam’s cultural landscape and provide a major boost to public events and artistic engagements in the region.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the mega auditorium was completed in record time, underscoring Assam’s accelerated push for infrastructure development.

“Presenting to you the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha, the region’s largest auditorium with a capacity of 5,000 seats to be inaugurated by Adarniya @AmitShah ji on 29th December. Built in record time it is named after the icons of Assam’s cultural landscape as a tribute to them,” CM Sarma posted on X.

The venue has been named after Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, two doyens of Assamese culture, in recognition of their enduring contributions to the state’s artistic and intellectual legacy.

Featuring contemporary architecture and state-of-the-art facilities, the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha will serve as a venue for major cultural festivals, theatrical performances, national conferences and public events.
