Tezpur: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday called for national unity in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, urging the people of India to stand together to deliver a strong response to Pakistan.
Speaking at a rally for the upcoming panchayat elections in Sonitpur district, Sarma emphasised the importance of supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in taking decisive action.
“We must stand united as Indians to respond to the Pahalgam terror attack. At this crucial time, we should back our Prime Minister to not only wipe out terrorism but to ensure Pakistan never dares to threaten our nation again,” Sarma said.
Reiterating Assam’s unwavering support for the prime minister, Sarma also criticised a Congress MP—without naming him—for allegedly maintaining links with Pakistan.
“There’s a Congress MP who reportedly spent 15 days in Pakistan without notifying Indian authorities. His wife works in India, but her salary is paid by Pakistan, and he hasn’t even made his children Indian citizens,” he alleged.
Shifting focus to state governance, Sarma highlighted various welfare measures rolled out under his administration.
He claimed that young people in Assam are securing employment through a transparent, corruption-free process, bringing renewed hope across the state.
Sarma also listed government initiatives aimed at aiding economically weaker sections, including free food grains, access to education, and cashless health insurance.

He added that further relief is on the horizon, including increased subsidies on LPG cylinders and planned reductions in electricity tariffs later this year.
Criticising the Congress for what he described as years of developmental stagnation, Sarma asserted that the current government is committed to inclusive growth and improved quality of life for all sections of society.
