Guwahati: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam Police seized drugs worth Rs 2 crore and arrested one person in Cachar district on Tuesday, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence, police conducted a raid in the Kachudaram area of the district and recovered 356 grams of heroin from the possession of the accused.
Confirming the seizure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the operation on social media. “Enjoy life, not drugs! Based on specific intel, @cacharpolice conducted an anti-narcotics operation in Kachudaram and apprehended one person with 356 gm of heroin worth Rs 2 crore,” he said in a post on X.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the efforts of the Assam Police, adding, “Kudos @assampolice! #AssamAgainstDrugs.”
Police said preliminary interrogation of the arrested individual is in progress to gather more information about the drug network operating in the region. Investigators are trying to determine whether the consignment was meant for local distribution or part of a larger interstate trafficking racket.
The operation is part of the Assam government’s ongoing crackdown on illegal drugs and narcotics trafficking across the state. In recent months, police have intensified surveillance and launched several operations to dismantle drug supply chains and bring those involved to justice.
