New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Hagrama Mohilary after he was sworn in as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), assuring continued support from both the Central and state governments for the council’s development initiatives.
Mohilary, representing the Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF), took office for the fourth time at a ceremony held in Kokrajhar district. Former minister Rihon Daimary was also sworn in as the deputy CEM, with Mohilary taking the oath in English and Daimary in Bodo.
The ceremony, held at the Bodoland Secretariat Field, was conducted amid inclement weather.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “I congratulate Shri Hagrama Mohilary on being sworn in as the Bodoland Territorial Council’s CEM. My best wishes to him and his team for their tenure. The Central government and Assam government will continue to support the BTC government as we collectively work to fulfil the vision of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma and ensure all-round development.”
The BPF secured a decisive victory in the recent BTC elections, winning 28 out of 40 seats, while alliance partners United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL) and BJP won seven and five seats respectively.
The Bodoland Territorial Council administers the Bodoland Territorial Region, which comprises five districts: Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, and Tamulpur.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, several state cabinet ministers, and Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma of Tripura.
The event signals the start of Mohilary’s fourth term, with expectations of renewed focus on regional development and governance in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
