GUWAHATI: In a concerning development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed on Tuesday that his Facebook account faced an attempt to breach by unidentified hackers.
Taking to micro-logging platform, CM Sarma disclosed the cyber-attack and raised suspicions that the hacker may be operating from Pakistan.
Expressing his concerns, Sarma wrote, “Unknown hackers made an attempt to hack my Facebook account this evening. Preliminary information suggests the hacker might be operating from Pakistan. Investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators.”
This is not the first time Chief Minister Sarma has fallen victim to cyber threats.
In a previous episode in July 2017, he had discovered that his account had been compromised when he received an email from a friend in Tamil Nadu regarding a suspicious fund transfer request.
The hackers had sought to transfer Rs 2 lakh to an account in Pune, triggering immediate action from Sarma, who lodged a complaint with the Dispur Police Station and highlighted the need to bolster cybersecurity measures.
Currently, concerned authorities are actively working to trace the hackers and secure the integrity of the digital space.
