Guwahati: One of Guwahati’s oldest community clubs, Sevak Sangha of Rest Camp, Maligaon, celebrated its 78th Kali Puja this year with a unique emotional touch — dedicating the celebration as a tribute to the late music icon Zubeen Garg, fondly known as Zubeen Da.
The pandal, adorned with over 150 photographs of the legendary singer, traced his remarkable journey through the years — from his early days in Assam’s music scene to his rise as one of the most influential cultural figures in the Northeast.
The theme quickly became the highlight of this year’s festivities, drawing hundreds of visitors who came not just to offer prayers but also to celebrate the life and legacy of an artist who deeply influenced generations.
The tribute, club members said, was their way of expressing gratitude to Zubeen Garg for his immense contribution to Assamese music, art, and identity.
“His voice and his spirit continue to unite us. Through this Puja, we wanted to remember and honour his indelible mark on Assam’s cultural landscape,” said one of the organisers.
Citizens from across age groups flocked to the puja venue, many describing the display as “deeply moving” and “a fitting homage” to the beloved singer.
The atmosphere at Sevak Sangha was one of both devotion and remembrance, blending faith with emotion.

Vice President of DY365, Surajit Chatterjee, attended the celebration on October 20 as the chief guest.
He praised the organisers for their thoughtful concept, calling it “a noble gesture that bridges spirituality with cultural reverence.”
Continuing its long-standing tradition of community service, Sevak Sangha will also distribute bhog to over 2,500 people on Tuesday, October 21, as part of its annual outreach initiative.
With the glow of devotion and the spirit of remembrance, this year’s Kali Puja at Sevak Sangha not only honoured Goddess Kali but also celebrated the everlasting legacy of Zubeen Garg — an artist whose voice continues to echo across Assam.
