Guwahati: The Ministry of Labour and Employment will be organizing a regional meeting of all the Northeastern states to discuss labour reforms, employment generation and social protection for all in Guwahati on Friday.
The 6th Regional Meeting of the NE states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura and Sikkim—will focus on discussions around consensus on labour reforms, eShram-national database of unorganised workers, building and other construction workers, employees’ state insurance corporation and employment generation initiatives.
The meeting will be chaired by Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment Sushri Shobha Karandlaje and will be attended by Secretary of Ministry of Labour and Employment Sumita Dawra, and senior officers of central and state governments.
The meeting marks the culmination of an ongoing series of six regional consultations organised by the ministry with the states and union territories which commenced on August 30, 2024.
Key labour and employment issues, including harmonisation in draft rules framed by the states and union territories and the Central government under labour codes, issues related to employment data collection and sharing, and inputs on the employment linked incentive scheme will be deliberated upon during the meeting.

Other issues like establishment of e-Shram portal as a one-stop solution for easy access to social security benefits for unorganised workers including migrant workers, expansion of coverage of various Central welfare schemes to building and other construction workers and upgrade of employment exchanges, among others will also be discussed during the meeting.
