Guwahati: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced the construction of five foot overbridges (FOBs) along the Guwahati Bypass of National Highway 27.
Highlighting the focus on pedestrian convenience, CM Sarma wrote on X, “Prioritising pedestrian convenience. @NHAI_Official is building 5 foot overbridges with escalators in the Guwahati Bypass of NH27 at important junctions to ensure safe crossing of pedestrians, especially students. Streetlights will also be installed in the entire stretch.”
The overbridges will be strategically placed at key locations: Jalukbari (near Assam Engineering College), Tetelia, Gorchuk (near CPWD Office), Royal Global University Point, and Lalmati (near Games Village).
The Chief Minister also shared a detailed map showing the exact locations of the upcoming foot overbridges and confirmed that the entire 18-kilometer stretch of the bypass will be illuminated with streetlights for enhanced night-time visibility.
The decision comes in response to increasing traffic on the bypass and the growing need for safe crossing points for pedestrians.
According to sources, the construction work is expected to be completed by July 2026. The project will involve an estimated expenditure of Rs 30 crore.

Earlier in the day, CM Sarma also visited the under-construction international terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport.
He stated that the terminal is expected to be ready by the end of November this year.
“On the verge of completion, it will boost connectivity in North East and also enhance connectivity for our neighbour Bhutan. Come November, get ready to fly in to a whole new experience,” Sarma added.
