Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the state’s hospitality sector is set for a major boost, with 11 new 5-star hotels to be built in Guwahati within the next 2-3 years.

CM Sarma performed the bhumi pujan of a Marriott Resort and Spa near LGBI Airport on Monday (May 12).

“Guwahati gets a leg up on attracting global hospitality chains! Today, I performed the Bhoomi Poojan for 2 major @MarriottIntl properties. MOUs for these projects worth Rs 500 cr were signed during #AdvantageAssam2 and work has begun in 3 months- that’s the speed of a new Assam,” CM Sarma wrote on X.

The chief minister said, “With 11 five-star hotels in the pipeline, Guwahati is becoming a hub for global hospitality chains who are seizing the opportunity to cater to the huge demand in the region.”

He announced that two Taj hotels will be built in Guwahati Aerocity and a Lemon Tree Hotel will come up on the National Highway.

“The Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati will be expanded with the addition of 100 more rooms. A Taj Hotel will come up in place of Vivanta at Khanapara and 4 more Marriott hotels will be set up in Guwahati,” he added.

Speaking during the event, the chief minister said Marriott Resort and Spa would be developed by Jonali Construction Private Limited.

He stated that the company signed an MoU with the Assam government during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit.

He added that the resort, planned on 76 bighas of land, is expected to be completed within three years and would generate employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
