GUWAHATI: In a moment of pride for India, Jiban Mazumder, a talented youth from Assam has secured the silver medal at an international art competition, and is all set to visit Jordan.
Organised by Janaritta Armooti Gallery and the Indian Embassy in the West Asian country, Mazumdar has been selected for his photograph that he clicked on his cellphone.
“Since I don’t have a DSLR, I use my phone,” says Mazumdar.
The 40-year-old from Guwahati discovered his passion for photography in 2016, when his teacher, Tridip Sarma, introduced him to a national-level competition organised by Praffulla Dahanukar Art Foundation in Mumbai.
During his B.Ed days, he first delved deep into the subject and later, while pursuing his master’s in Sociology and Commerce, had amassed several awards to his name.
Among his notable achievements are the Gold Medal in the North East Zone Photography Competition organised by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation in 2016 and the Bronze Medal in the same competition in 2017, First Prize in photography competition organized by The Story Mug in 2021, Second Prize in Lets Ride in 2021, to name just a few.
Sharing details about his journey, Mazumder revealed that, in addition to his academic pursuits, he worked as a teacher in several schools in Guwahati.
Currently, he has ventured into entrepreneurship, starting a cloud kitchen and partnering in an event management business.
