Guwahati: Popular YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani was questioned by the Guwahati Police on Thursday in connection with a case alleging the promotion of obscenity through a publicly accessible online show.

Accompanied by his legal counsel, Chanchlani appeared before the Crime Branch, where his statement was recorded.

The police allowed him to leave after the session, noting his cooperation in the investigation.

“We have recorded his statement, and as he cooperated fully, we did not detain him. However, if further clarification is needed, he may be summoned again,” Guwahati Police Joint Commissioner Ankur Jain stated during a media briefing.

When questioned about the other accused who are yet to appear before the authorities, Jain mentioned that fresh notices would be issued, urging them to cooperate with the investigation.

The case was registered on February 10 at the Cyber Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Chanchlani had earlier been granted interim bail by the Gauhati High Court on February 18.

He is one of five individuals named in the FIR, alongside podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia (the prime accused), comedians Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.

The controversy revolves around the online show “Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent,” with the Supreme Court previously granting interim protection to Allahbadia over his remarks on the platform.

The case has drawn national attention, highlighting concerns over content regulations and freedom of expression on digital platforms.
