GUWAHATI: The police has successfully apprehended three individuals suspected to be linked with the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on Tuesday.
The arrests took place in the BBC colony in Guwahati’s Maligaon area during a planned operation in the afternoon.
The trio, identified as Asim Adhikari, Moon Debnath, and Rupjyoti Das, were found in possession of a pistol and ammunition during the police search.
Adhikari, believed to be closely associated with ULFA-I, had been living in Guwahati under the guise of a computer operator.

The police revealed that Adhikari was actively involved in recruiting young individuals for the militant group.
The development comes on the heels of the arrest of four individuals on December 17, suspected to be connected to the recent Sivasagar grenade blast.
Assam has witnessed a series of three grenade blasts in just 22 days, from November 22 to December 14, creating an atmosphere of tension and concern in the state.
The latest grenade blast near the Lichubari Military Camp in Assam’s Jorhat district occurred on December 14 when two individuals on motorcycles targeted the Army camp.

The ULFA-I had previously executed grenade attacks in Tinsukia and Sivasagar districts on November 22 and December 9, respectively.
In a press release on December 10, the banned outfit claimed responsibility for the grenade blasts and accused Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh of “arrogance”, declaring the attacks as a direct response to his behaviour.
They cautioned that unless DGP Singh alters his conduct and ceases treating the Assam Police as his “ancestral property,” similar attacks will continue.
Meanwhile, the police are interrogating the trio to find out more about the banned outfit’s plans and evaluate its broader implications on the security of the state.
