Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the forthcoming Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge will be officially named ‘Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu’.
The bridge will be named in honour of Kumar Bhaskar Varma, the renowned Kamrupa King who ruled the region during the 7th century.
Kumar Bhaskar Varma’s remarkable contributions to the prosperity of Kamrupa and his pivotal role in elevating Assam’s cultural and political significance have had a profound and lasting impact on the state’s history.
Naming the bridge after him is a fitting tribute to his legendary legacy, CM Sarma said.
With a projected completion date of July 2025, the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between these two crucial areas of the city.
Upon completion of the bridge, all vehicles, except for trucks and commercial buses, will be exempt from toll charges.
“Work on the upcoming Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is progressing well, and we plan to dedicate it to the people after July 2025,” he said.
