GUWAHATI: In a bid to harness the power of visual storytelling for conservation efforts, a three-day workshop on nature and wildlife filmmaking was held recently in Guwahati.
Organised by Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation organisation, the three-day workshop provided a platform for aspiring filmmakers to explore the technical intricacies of photography and videography.
Partnering with Nikon India as the equipment sponsor and ecoNE as the media collaborator, the workshop emphasized the pivotal role of visual narratives in raising awareness about wildlife preservation.
Dr Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Secretary General & CEO of Aaranyak, inaugurated the workshop, setting the tone for an immersive experience focused on the art of conservation filmmaking.
Kumar Kishor Kalita, representing Nikon India, underscored the importance of leveraging technological advancements in storytelling to amplify the impact of conservation efforts.
Throughout the workshop, participants delved into a diverse array of topics ranging from the fundamentals of videography and cinematography to understanding the nuances of nature and wildlife subjects.
Engaging in outdoor video shooting sessions within the scenic environs of Garbhanga Reserve Forest, attendees honed their skills while crafting their own practice projects under expert guidance.
Dr Sanjib Parasar, Lecturer at the Motion Picture Photography Department of Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute, conducted a captivating session on documentary filmmaking, inspiring participants to explore the depth and breadth of storytelling through film.
The workshop seamlessly integrated the expertise and resources of Aaranyak’s Media Production & Communications Division.
Led by Udayan Borthakur, a Senior Scientist and acclaimed wildlife photographer and filmmaker, along with Chinmoy Swargiary, Documentation & Production Officer at Aaranyak, participants benefited from a comprehensive curriculum tailored to enhance their filmmaking skills.
Reflecting on the success of the workshop, Borthakur affirmed Aaranyak’s commitment to fostering communication skill development for impactful storytelling on nature and wildlife themes.
“This workshop is part of a larger initiative aimed at enhancing communication skills for more impactful storytelling on nature and wildlife subjects,” he said.
