Guwahati: The second edition of the Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) began on Thursday at Jyoti Chitraban, marking a four-day celebration of Asian and Indian cinema with a curated lineup of 26 films from across the continent.
The opening ceremony was held on Thursday in the presence of noted filmmakers, invited guests and delegates.
The festival is being organised by Trending Now Media, with support from the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
GAFF 2026 opened with the screening of Uzbek feature film Sunday, directed by Shokir Kholikov.
The first day also featured the India premiere of Japanese filmmaker Masahiro Ota’s S in the Asian Cinema section, along with An Evening Ballad by Bishal Swargiary, screened under the Indian Showcase (non-competition) category.
The festival continues on January 23 with six films slated for screening on its second day.

These include Karbi film The Lost Path (Kangbo Aloti) by Khanjan Kishore Nath, Assamese feature Morning Sunshine (Rador Pakhi) by Bobby Sarma Baruah, Vietnamese film Cu Li Never Cries by Pham Ngoc Lan, Assamese film The Woodcutter (Gos Kota Manuh) by Prakesh Deka, and Manipuri feature Phouoibee (The Goddess of Paddy) directed by Rakesh Moirangthem.
GAFF 2026 will run until January 25 at Jyoti Chitraban, showcasing regional, national and international films from 10 Asian countries.
Alongside film screenings, the festival will also host masterclasses, panel discussions and interactive sessions featuring filmmakers, critics and industry professionals from India and other parts of Asia.
