GUWAHATI: In a melodic celebration of art and culture, the 5th edition of Mongeet, Assam’s exclusive music residency, is set to enchant audiences from January 15 at Dekasang, Majuli.
The highlight of the three-day event will be a performance of Grammy Award-winning Mohan Veena exponent, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.
The musical extravaganza will feature a masterclass by Pandit Bhatt on January 17, providing a unique learning experience for the selected participants.
Following the masterclass, aperformance by the classical music maestro will grace Dekasang Sonapur on January 18, captivating an august audience.
Mongeet, initiated in 2020 under the Raul Kaushik Nath Foundation and Mongeet Foundation, has evolved into a crucial platform dedicated to fostering emerging talents in art and music.
Over the years, the event has identified and nurtured more than 100 budding artists, sculptors, and musicians who have subsequently made significant contributions to their respective fields.
This year’s edition promises to build upon this legacy, offering enriching programmes and a stellar lineup of mentors.
Selected participants will be mentored by renowned musicians Joi Barua, Dhruba Jyoti Phukan, Kalyan Baruah, Rononjoy Barooah, Dwipen Baruah, Samar Hazarika, Arup Jyoti Baruah, and internationally acclaimed actor Adil Hussain.
In addition to the musical residency, the event encompasses a range of masterclasses and workshops, including Monmritika and Montulika for budding sculptors and artists, and Ahaaror Akholi, a culinary workshop conducted by renowned chef Atul Lahkar.
Mongeet 2024 holds a special tribute to the centenary year of Assamese recorded songs, infusing historical significance into the musical celebrations.
The festival will also feature the screening of the documentary film Puroni Akasor Rupohi Joonbai, focusing on Bonkonwar Anandi Ram Das and Bongeet.
The culmination of the festival on January 19 in Guwahati at Dekasang Sonapur will witness certificate distribution to participants, followed by performances from both participants and renowned musicians like Barua, Tarali Sarma, Kalyan Barua, and Arup Jyoti Baruah.
Mongeet 2024 promises an immersive experience, celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of Assam and nurturing the next generation of artistic talents.
