GUWAHATI: Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has urged all stakeholders in state to make Assam a model for the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Stressing that the policy is designed to champion the cause of nation’s education system, Governor Kataria asserted that the NEP 2020 is deep-rooted in the nations rich heritage and pool of knowledge.

“The rich heritage of ancient and eternal Indian knowledge and thought has been a guiding light for NEP 2020. The implementation of the provisions of the policy in letter and spirit will be largely responsible for preparing a roadmap to expedite India’s prosperity,” the governor said, while addressing a conclave on NEP-20 implementation in Guwahati.

In June 2023, the state government had formally launched the implementation of the education policy in higher educational institutes of the state.

Governor Kataria highlighted that the faithful implementation of the policy’s provisions would play a significant role in charting a course for India’s future prosperity.

Advocated for flexibility in the education system, allowing students the option to transfer from one institution to another within the state through an “Academic Bank of Credits”. “This approach would offer students greater choices and opportunities in their academic journey,” he was quoted as saying.

Praising the people of Assam and extending his gratitude to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for facilitating the policy’s implementation in the state, he said that educational institutes and faculties play an important role to create a conducive atmosphere for the implementation of the policy in the region.

“Therefore, the faculty members should be immensely motivated towards the implementation of NEP 2020 and the vice-chancellors of various universities must follow uniformity in its implementation within the state”, the governor said.

He also called upon the vice-chancellors of various universities in the state to ensure uniformity in the policy’s implementation.

During the conclave, universities and institutions in the state presented updates on the status of NEP implementation, showcasing the collective effort and commitment of Assam’s education community toward realizing the policy’s objectives.
