GUWAHATI: As a build-up to 3rd Global Maritime India Summit 2023 (GMIS) in October and push for growth of the waterways sector in Northeast, the Inland Waterways Authority (IWA) is organising a roadshow in Guwahati tomorrow.

To begin at Radisson Blu at 11 am on Thursday, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the show.

On the eve of the roadshow, the Union Minister, said that it is aimed at engaging the stakeholders of maritime sector and inland waterways in the region.

“By convening on this shared platform, we can engage in comprehensive discussions and explore a variety of possibilities – ranging from harnessing waterways’ potential to exploring multiple facets of the maritime sector,” he said on Wednesday.

Earlier on August 26, a similar roadshow was organised by the IWA in Goa and inaugurating the event, Sonowal had said that the roadshow “represents our cultural ties”.

The GMIS 2023 is set to begin from October 17 to 19, 2023, at Bharat Mandapam, the venue for the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

“With the theme of ‘Connect, Collaborate & Create’, the summit aims to foster a platform for global and domestic stakeholders to explore the immense potential of the maritime sector. I am confident that the discussions and collaborations at this event will pave the way for a successful GIMS 2023,” said Sonowal, adding that the event will foster progressive dialogues on utilising waterways for regional growth.

Apart from the representatives from each state of Northeast, GIMS is likely to be attended by foreign delegates from Bhutan and Bangladesh as well.
