Guwahati: The Global Assamese Conference 2026, scheduled for January 16–18 at IIT Guwahati, marks a landmark moment in structured engagement between the Assamese diaspora and key stakeholders in Assam.
Conceived as a knowledge-driven, action-oriented forum, the conference brings together scholars, professionals, students, policymakers, and community leaders from across the world.
Around 70 members of the Assamese diaspora, representing diverse disciplines including science, technology, healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, public policy, culture, and the arts, are scheduled to attend and actively participate as panellists, speakers, mentors, and workshop leaders.
They will engage closely with local scholars, students, and institutions through plenary lectures, parallel academic sessions, hands-on workshops, and open forums designed for dialogue and collaboration.
Over 200 participants have already registered, with registrations continuing through the official platform for local scholars and delegates.
The programme reflects a deliberate balance between heritage and future-facing themes—ranging from Assam’s civilisational history and cultural ecology to sustainable development, innovation, climate resilience, public health, and digital futures.
A distinctive feature of the conference is its emphasis on knowledge and skill transfer, moving beyond symbolic diaspora engagement toward practical, ethical, and sustained contribution. This intent is reflected in discussions around the proposed diaspora-led Global Assamese Foundation, envisioned as a long-term institutional platform to support education, research, culture, community development, and innovation in Assam.
The conference will also deliberate on the draft Guwahati Declaration 2026, an aspirational document that seeks to articulate shared principles, commitments, and pathways for continued global Assamese engagement.
The conference will also see the launch of Biswar Chande Chande, the inaugural annual souvenir of the Global Assamese Engagement Initiative.
More than a conventional commemorative volume, the publication brings together essays, reflections, policy notes, and creative contributions that mirror the intellectual and ethical concerns of the conference.
It includes messages of blessing and goodwill received from spiritual leaders, public representatives, and distinguished well-wishers, underscoring the broader significance of the initiative. The souvenir will be made freely available in digital form to all interested readers worldwide, with printed copies provided to conference participants.

Organisers emphasise that the Global Assamese Conference 2026 is not conceived as a one-time event, but as the beginning of a continuing process—anchored in dialogue, mutual respect, and institution-building—through which the global Assamese community can contribute meaningfully to Assam’s future while remaining rooted in its cultural and ethical traditions.
