GUWAHATI: In a bid to foster collaborative endeavours in the realm of academia and research Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Guwahati.
The MoU signing ceremony, held at AIIMS, marked a pivotal moment as Prof Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS, Guwahati, and Prof Dipankar Saha, Registrar of GCU, Assam, inked the agreement.
The MoU signifies a mutual commitment between the two institutions to embark on joint research programmes focusing on interdisciplinary areas of specialisation that hold high relevance for both entities.
Among the primary objectives of this collaboration are research endeavours exploring the correlation between heavy metals and various diseases, as well as investigations into the integration of traditional and modern medicine.
Furthermore, the collaboration aims to conduct research spanning in-silico, in-vitro, in-vivo, and clinical realms to identify and develop novel biomarkers, evaluate therapeutic targets, and assess the efficacy and safety of novel formulations.
Special emphasis will be placed on addressing the healthcare needs of the population in Northeast India.
An integral aspect of this collaboration involves leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to delve into novel molecular targets and validate their significance in the context of various human diseases, with a particular focus on the Northeast.
Importantly, all research activities conducted under this partnership will adhere to a stringent ethical framework, ensuring integrity and transparency throughout the process.
The event was graced by eminent personalities including Dr Subash Chandra Gupta, Professor & Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Dr Phulen Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Prof Sunayan Bardoloi, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, Prof Bhanu P Sahu, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, along with other dignitaries from both AIIMS and GCU.
