GUWAHATI: Good news for water sports enthusiasts as the second edition of the much-anticipated “The Rising Sun Water Fest – Revisiting Saraighat” will begin from November 17.
To be held at Deepor Beel in Guwahati, the festival promises a thrilling lineup of activities, featuring sailing and rowing competitions with participation of renowned sailing clubs from across the country.
The event will showcase some of the most talented and dedicated athletes who will compete in both sailing and rowing, announced the Red Horns Division, on behalf of Army’s Eastern Command and the government, during the curtain raiser event at Narangi Military Station in Guwahati on Tuesday.
To add an extra layer of excitement and uniqueness, the Red Horns Division, in a statement, revealed that a thrilling demonstration by Special Forces and the Indian Air Force would be a major highlight for the spectators.
This water sports festival serves as a tribute to the heroic Saraighat Battle, a significant historical event that unfolded in 1671 when the valiant Ahom forces, led by general Lachit Borphukan, emerged victorious over the Mughals on the Brahmaputra, the statement read.
The curtain-raiser event began with the unveiling of magnificent trophies that will be awarded to the winners of the sailing and rowing competitions.
The event, says the organisers, actively seeks to encourage and guide aspiring youth to take up sailing, rowing, and other water sports, ensuring the legacy of this event and these sports continues to thrive.
The Army’s Eastern Command and the state government extended a warm invitation to members of the press, sports enthusiasts, and the public to join them for this three-day festival at Deepor Beel.
More than just sports, this event celebrates the spirit of competition, inclusivity, and the pursuit of excellence while inspiring and motivating the youth to embrace water sports, the statement from the organisers read.
