GCU students sweep 3 gold medals at North East Zonal Youth Festival

GCU students sweep 3 gold medals at North East Zonal Youth Festival

Azara: Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU), Assam, delivered a stellar performance at the 38th AIU North East Zone Inter-University Youth Festival, bagging three gold medals at the prestigious event held at ICFAI University in Tripura from January 27 to 31.

The festival, organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), saw participation from 22 universities and over 800 students across North East India.

GCU students excelled in the categories of Western Solo Song, Western Group Song, and Mimicry, clinching the top honours in each.

The gold medallists will represent the North East Zone in their respective categories at the upcoming National Youth Festival, scheduled from March 3 to 7, 2025, at Amity University, Uttar Pradesh.

The 24-member GCU team, led by Dr. Moytri Sarmah, Dean of Student Affairs, and Team Manager Anjan Deka, showcased exceptional talent.

Charlene Mahalia took home the gold in Western Solo Song, while a team comprising Arzoo Mahchin Ali, Ayon Chila Oja, Charlene Mahalia, Lyansy M. Marak, Shiva Mall, Subhajeet Das, Safikul Hussain, and Nishanta Hriday Deka secured the top spot in Western Group Song.

Ayon Chila Oja also won gold in Mimicry, and Bhabajit Handique from GCU (Tezpur) placed fifth in Classical Instrumental (Percussion).

Since 1985, the AIU has been organising the annual Inter-University Youth Festival, bringing together talented youth artists from its member universities and approximately 45,000 affiliated colleges nationwide.

GCU’s remarkable performance this year reinforces the university’s dedication to nurturing student talent and promoting cultural excellence.
