Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday sharply criticized Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi over his speech in Lok Sabha during the “Operation Sindoor” debate.
Sarma alleged that Gogoi’s statements during the “Operation Sindoor” debate in Lok Sabha “proved” he acts “on behalf of Pakistan.”
Criticising him for his address in the House, Sarma dubbed Gogoi as a “disgrace to Assam”.
“speech delivered by our MP from Jorhat in Parliament yesterday proved beyond doubt that he acts on behalf of Pakistan,” the Assam Chief Minister posted on X.
CM Sarma stated, “His secret trip and close ties with the Pakistani establishment speak volumes. With his wife and both kids holding foreign citizenship, he can leave India any time. He is a disgrace to Assam and a betrayal of our pride as proud Indian.”
The Parliament saw a fierce face-off between the Centre and the Opposition during a marathon discussion in Lok Sabha on Monday on ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s retaliatory action following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Sarma’s strong remarks were made in response to Gogoi’s challenging of the government on a range of issues during the “Operation Sindoor” debate.
Gogoi, deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, has asserted that the central government must present the “whole truth” regarding ‘Operation Sindoor’.
“They (Centre) said we attacked them inside their homes. But, they are also saying that Operation Sindoor is incomplete because Pakistan can do it again in the future. They said it themselves. Then how was the operation a success?” asked Gogoi.
The Congress MP said, “They are saying our intention was not war, was it not so? They say it was not to take territory. Why was it not? When will we take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, if not today, then when?”

He also asked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who initiated the debate on the government’s end and was present in the House when Gogoi spoke, about the number of Indian fighter jets lost during the India-Pakistan conflict.
The Congress leader’s remarks in the Parliament were also played up by Pakistani media, which was slammed by Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika.
