Guwahati: Congress MP and deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Sunday launched a sharp counterattack against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, dismissing his recent allegations as “insane” and “nonsensical” while questioning the CM’s mental well-being.
Taking to social media platform X, Gogoi reacted strongly to Sarma’s claim that the Congress leader had visited Pakistan at the invitation of its intelligence agency ISI and had worked closely with the Pakistani establishment.
Calling the accusation baseless, Gogoi wrote: “For some reason best known to him, I have been on his radar since my entry into Assam politics. He has made many baseless remarks about me over the past 13 years. The most recent one borders on insanity and the absurd.”
He further said that the chief minister was behaving more like a “troll from the IT cell” rather than a head of government, making wild statements without factual backing.
Gogoi also alluded to personal issues potentially affecting Sarma’s judgment.

“It is often said that when there is something bothering at home, it reflects in the mental state of the person,” he said, adding, “We will ensure that after 2026, he gets to have some rest.”
The exchange comes ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, as political rhetoric heats up in the state.
