GUWAHATI: In a strategic initiative aimed at shaping its vision for the impending 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has formed a Manifesto Committee with Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi as a member.
This development unfolds against the backdrop of heightened anticipation, with 80 aspirants actively competing for party tickets in the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Polls in Assam.
The committee, led by former Union minister P Chidambaram, boasts a formidable lineup of 16 members, including Assam’s Koliabor MP and deputy leader of the party in Lok Sabha, Gogoi along with party stalwarts Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Shashi Tharoor, among others.
The initiative, unveiled on Saturday, aims to address the varied needs and concerns of the voters, reflecting a nuanced understanding of the socio-political landscape. The decision to establish the committee was reached during a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
Meanwhile, on the political front in Assam, more than 80 politicians have eagerly entered the fray, seeking Congress tickets for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The race for party nominations in Assam has witnessed a robust competition, with a total of 83 Congress members, including all three current MPs in the state, submitting their applications.
Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi, expressing his commitment to the constituency, has sought re-election.

Meanwhile, adding an intriguing dimension to the electoral landscape, Kaliabor MP and deputy leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, has filed applications for multiple seats, including Nagaon, Kaziranga, and Jorhat.
The seasoned politician’s strategic move aims to bolster the party’s presence across key constituencies.
Further intensifying the competition, sitting Assam MLA and former state minister Rakibul Hussain has also submitted his application, vying for representation from the Nagaon constituency.
The application process, initiated by the Assam Congress on December 11, attracted a significant level of interest, marked by a fee of Rs 1 lakh per application.
Originally slated to conclude on December 19, the deadline was extended, finally concluding on December 22.
Dhubri takes the lead with 13 aspirants, while Kokrajhar sees the least competition with two.
Guwahati and Nagaon each have four contenders, with three in Kaziranga and Dibrugarh.
