Guwahati: A day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi of being a “Pakistani agent planted by a foreign power,” the opposition leader on Saturday lashed out, saying the comments reflect that Sarma is “unfit” to hold his position as head of the government.
Taking to X, Guarav Gogoi said, “Over the past few months Himanta Biswa Sarma dangoriya has lost credibility. Yesterday when the entire state was watching Zubeen Garg perform for the last time in Roi Roi Binale, the Chief Minister’s comments showed his growing fear of losing power.”
The Congress leader’s sharp rebuttal came a day after Sarma reiterated his allegation that Gogoi had links to Pakistan through his British wife, claiming that he possessed evidence to substantiate the charge.
Gogoi also criticized the timing of the allegations on the day when the state’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg’s last movie was released on Friday.
It was another example of why he is unfit as the Chief Minister of the people of Assam, Gogoi added.
Responding to reports that a Congress leader allegedly sang the Bangladeshi national anthem during a party meeting, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi clarified that the song, composed by Rabindranath Tagore, reflects the sentiments and cultural heritage of the Bengali people.
“The BJP has always insulted the Bengali language, Bengali culture and the people of Bengal. Their IT Cell has also insulted people of Bengal in the past. They have shown ignorance by not knowing the history of Rabindranath Tagore.

He added that the people of Bengal and Bengali-speaking communities across the country now understand that the BJP only uses them for electoral gains.
