GUWAHATI: The Guwahati High Court on Monday convicted prime accused Rakesh Paul, the former chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), and 33 others in the infamous APSC (ADO) recruitment scam.
The recruitment scam involved significant irregularities in the selection process for ADO positions advertised in 2013.
The scam is a part of the larger APSC cash-for-jobs scandal, where candidates allegedly paid bribes to secure government positions illegally.
The former chairman of APSC is believed to be the mastermind of the scam. The irregularities in the ADO recruitment process are suspected to have taken place during his tenure.
The APSC scam, which was exposed in 2015-16, involved allegations of candidates bribing officials to obtain government jobs through manipulated exams.
This verdict comes after years of investigation and legal proceedings. While 34 individuals have been found guilty, 10 others were acquitted by the court.
