GUWAHATI: In a bid to extend essential eye care services to the underprivileged, a free cataract surgery and eye check-up camp is underway in rural areas of Morigaon and Udalguri.
Led by a team of dedicated ophthalmologists from Guwahati, the rural eye screening camps are screening approximately 200 patients over a span of 15 days, beginning from February 19.
Organised by Topcem Cement, a leading cement brand in the Northeast, the camp marks the seventh edition of the camp to provide free eye-care to the masses.
Selected patients requiring cataract surgery will undergo the procedure at the Eye Doctors – An Eye Clinic & Surgery Centre in Guwahati, with Topcem Cement extending support to 40 of these cases.
Dr Anil Kapur, President of Sales & Marketing at Meghalaya Cements Ltd., expressed the company’s commitment to social causes and its pledge to continue such initiatives in the future.
“Topcem Cement is committed to every social cause that contributes to social development and provides support to the underprivileged,” he affirmed.
The free cataract surgery initiative, initiated by Topcem Cement in 2018, aligns with progressive government programmes such as the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment.
This government initiative aims to mitigate avoidable blindness in India by the year 2025.
Through this philanthropic endeavour, the cement brand aims at enhancing the quality of life for the less fortunate by offering accessible eye healthcare solutions.
The company’s steadfast commitment to community eye health underscores its ethos of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its vision for a healthier and brighter future for all.
