Investigators have not yet revealed the specific charges, but senior officials noted that the scale of the recovery points to a potentially larger financial network.
Hussain is known to wield considerable influence in Lower Assam, particularly in Dhubri district, where he has been active in both political and business circles.
Once a Congress leader, he has since emerged as a significant figure in real estate and land brokerage, with business interests spanning Dhubri and Guwahati.
Meanwhile, Anowar Hussain is being questioned by the Guwahati police, with an aim to trace the source of the funds, identify beneficiaries named on the cheques, and determine whether the money links to illegal transactions.
