Five films from Northeast to be screened in Indian Panorama at 55th International Film Festival of India

Guwahati: Five regional films from the Northeast, including three Assamese films, one Garo film from Meghalaya, and one Galo language film from Arunachal Pradesh, have been selected for screening at the prestigious Indian Panorama section of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

The Assamese films chosen are “Juiphul,” directed by Jadumoni Dutta, “Rador Pakhi,” directed by Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah, and “Swargarath,” directed by Rajesh Bhuyan.

From Meghalaya, the Garo film “Chanchisoa,” directed by Elvachisa Ch Sangma and Dipankar Das, will also be showcased.

Arunachal Pradesh’s Galo language film “Karken,” directed by Nending Loder, will be screened at the festival.

The IFFI is scheduled to take place in Panaji, Goa, from November 20 to 28.

The festival is organized by the National Film Development Corporation, Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with the State Government of Goa.

“Swargarath” will be featured in the mainstream Cinema Section, the Garo film “Chanchisoa” has been selected under the Non-Feature Films category.

25 Feature Films and 20 Non-Feature Films will be screened in Indian Panorama at 55th IFFI.

The package of 25 feature films, including 5 films from mainstream cinema, has been chosen from a broad spectrum of 384 contemporary Indian feature films. The jury’s choice for the opening film of Indian Panorama 2024 is “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (Hindi)”, directed by actor Randeep Hooda.

The package of 20 non-feature films will be screened in the Indian Panorama selected from a spectrum of 262 films.

The non-feature films exemplify the capacity of emerging and established filmmakers to document, investigate, entertain and also reflect contemporary Indian values.

The jury’s choice for the opening film in the non-feature category is ‘Ghar Jaisa Kuch (Ladakhi)’, directed by Harsh Sangani.
