Tinsukia (Assam): Five personnel from the Bordumsa Police Station in Assam’s Tinsukia district were suspended on Sunday, while the officer-in-charge (OC) was transferred, officials confirmed.
The action was prompted after a local man—who reportedly had an altercation with police during Friday’s panchayat election polling—was allegedly taken into custody and assaulted the following night.
According to sources, the man was brought to the station on the instructions of OC Biswajit Saharia and subjected to a severe beating while in custody.
News of the incident quickly spread, sparking public outrage and protests in the area, with locals demanding accountability and justice.
In response, two sub-inspectors and three constables were suspended with immediate effect and directed to report to the district headquarters.
