Tinsukia: A fierce encounter between the Army and suspected ULFA militants broke out inside Dhekiajan Reserve Forest in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Official sources told Northeast News that at around 9.20 am when an Army column was on a routine patrolling around the Dhekiajan Reserve Forest, came under heavy shelling.
The Army personnel immediately took cover, and launched a counter-attack at the militants, suspected to be caught inside the thickly vegetated jungle.
Additional forces immediately rushed to the spot, and have cordoned-off the entire area. There are some forest villages in the area, and the insurgents were reportedly taking shelter there.
Senior police officials also rushed to the spot from Tinsukia, and the Digboi -Pengeri Road has been closed for the general public.
There were no reports of casualties till the filing of this report.
