New Delhi: The North East Media Forum, in collaboration with social organisation My Home India, has invited entries for the third edition of the Kalyan Barooah Memorial Awards for Journalism, which will be presented on December 11 to mark the birth anniversary of the late journalist.
The awards honour the legacy of Kalyan Barooah, a veteran correspondent of The Assam Tribune who spent nearly three decades in New Delhi highlighting issues from the Northeast on the national stage.
According to a statement from the North East Media Forum, the awards are open to journalists from the Northeast working anywhere in India, as well as journalists from other parts of the country who have reported extensively on the region.
Nominations may be made by individuals for eligible journalists in five categories — print, digital, electronic, still photography, and videography.
There is no age limit for participation. Applicants must submit three to five bylined works, such as scanned articles or certified video clips, clearly indicating the publication or channel name, date of publication or telecast, and language.
Digital media applicants may provide active story links, and non-English entries should include a brief summary in English.

Each submission should also include a bio-data, a copy of the journalist’s official ID, and contact details.
Entries must be emailed to northeastmediaforumofficial@gmail.com by November 10, 2025.
Instituted in memory of Barooah, who passed away during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the awards celebrate his commitment to bringing the Northeast’s stories to national attention.
The initiative was first announced in 2022 during a memorial event organised by the North East Media Forum and the Press Club of India.
The first and second award ceremonies were held at the Constitution Club in New Delhi in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
