GUWAHATI: The North East Media Forum and My Home India have announced the opening of entries for the 2nd Kalyan Barooah Memorial Awards.
The award ceremony will be held on December 11, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the late journalist Kalyan Barooah.
The nominations have been invited across four categories for the award. The four categories are print/digital media, electronic media, still photography, and videography.
Journalists from the North East working anywhere in India or those covering the region from other parts of the country, including freelancers, are eligible to apply. Nominations can also be submitted by others on behalf of qualifying journalists.
The applicants must submit scanned copies of their work (3 to 5 byline stories or video clips) along with their application. Each video clip should include the publication/channel name, date, and language.
If the work is in a language other than English, a brief English summary must be provided.
Additionally, applicants need to submit their bio-data, an ID card from their respective organization, detailed address, mobile number, and email ID.
The deadline for submissions is September 30, 2024. Entries should be sent to: northeastmediaforumofficial@gmail.com
A jury comprising eminent persons from media, formed by North East Media Forum, will select the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award on their own, and also select the winners from among the entries received.
The first edition of the Kalyan Barooah Memorial Awards was held on December 11, 2023, at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.
Veteran journalist Kalyan Barooah, the long-time North East correspondent for The Assam Tribune in New Delhi, tragically passed away during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. He was known for his contribution to bringing the issues of Northeast India to the forefront of national discourse.

Following a memorial meeting held in his honour on May 1, 2022, organized by the North East Media Forum and the Press Club of India, My Home India founder Sunil Deodhar announced the establishment of these awards to celebrate Barooah’s immense contribution to journalism.
