Guwahati: The Election Commission on Monday carried out a comprehensive review of Assam’s preparedness for the forthcoming Assembly elections, focusing on district-level arrangements and inter-agency coordination, according to an official statement.
The assessment was conducted over a two-day period beginning Sunday, with senior Election Commission officials overseeing the process, the joint chief electoral officer said.
On the opening day of the review, officials evaluated poll preparedness at the district level, with participation from the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), senior police officials, including IGs and DIGs, district election officers, and superintendents of police.
The discussions covered a wide range of issues such as overall election planning, coordination among departments, identification of sensitive areas, and deployment of security measures.
The second day was dedicated to strengthening coordination with enforcement agencies. The session brought together the Chief Electoral Officer, the state police nodal officer, and officers responsible for coordinating state forces. The focus was on readiness of enforcement machinery, improving inter-departmental cooperation, effective enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, and ensuring strict adherence to election-related laws.
The two-day exercise provided officials with a detailed overview of election readiness across both administrative and enforcement fronts. The review stressed the importance of close coordination among all stakeholders, optimal use of resources, and strict observance of legal and procedural requirements to facilitate the orderly and transparent conduct of the polls.
The Assembly polls in the state are scheduled to take place in March–April.

At present, the ruling BJP holds 64 seats in the Assam Assembly, while its allies—Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF)—have nine, seven and three MLAs respectively.
In the opposition, the Congress has 26 MLAs, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has 15 members, CPI(M) has one legislator, along with one Independent MLA.
