Guwahati: Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) with support from IDBI Bank has started a project ‘Revitalizing Innovation for Sustainable Enterprises (RISE)’, a technology-based handloom programme, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship in the field of handloom.
The objective of the project RISE is to focus on enhancing innovation and sustainability in handloom enterprises in Pairanga, Raipara, Milonpur, and Bondapara of Kamrup district for the financial year 2023-2024.
The members of these villages were already doing handloom practices with traditional loom and now the program RISE aims to empower the progressive weavers in the handloom sector through advanced Jacquard machinery training ensuring the efficiency, growth, and sustainability of their businesses.
After the successful completion of Technology-Based Entrepreneurship Training (TEDP) in Jacquard Weaving the participants of Pairanga, Raipara, Bondapara, and Milonpur were provided two days each training on brand creation, packaging, UPI and compliance.
Saumar Sharma was the resource person for brand creation and Swmsui Basumatary was the resource person on packaging.
The training was held from June 11 to 17, which is a part of the Entrepreneurship Growth Program (EGP) under project RISE.
The objective behind this training program is to equip the weavers with the knowledge of brand creation, packaging, UPI and compliance for different products that will be produced in their Jacquard Loom and keep them updated with the demand of the market.
The weavers will also be extended support in market linkage and selling of their products under the project RISE.
The successful launch of the RISE project signifies a collective commitment to revitalizing the handloom industry, aligning seamlessly with national initiatives promoting the handloom sector in the development and entrepreneurship of the community members of Kamrup District.
