GUWAHATI: Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia arrived in Guwahati on Friday for his inaugural visit to the Northeast since assuming office.
Upon landing at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Scindia expressed gratitude for the responsibility bestowed upon him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior party leaders.
“It is my visit as the DoNER Minister. However, I have very old and strong ties with this region,” he remarked.
Highlighting the Northeast’s cultural richness and natural abundance, Scindia highlighted the region’s pivotal role in India’s “Act East” policy.
“The Northeast is a repository of our age-old sanskriti and sanskar, cultural vibrancy, and nature’s bounty. This repository must and will be showcased to the world,” he stated during a press interaction.
Underlining the BJP government’s commitment to Northeast development, Scindia noted significant strides in infrastructure and budget allocation.
“In the past 10 years, we have seen exceptional progress in the region, with the budget increasing from Rs 24,000 crores to Rs 82,000 crores. We have also expanded the number of airports from 9 to 17,” he highlighted.
Scindia’s itinerary includes chairing a review meeting at the North Eastern Council (NEC) Secretariat in Shillong on July 13.
The meeting will assess the progress of regional projects and initiatives, gathering officials from MDoNER, NEC, and state governments.
A presentation on NEC Vision 2047 and the launch of the NERACE app are slated as key highlights of the visit.
The Minister’s visit underscores the government’s continued focus on accelerating development and fostering connectivity in the Northeast, aligning with broader national strategic goals.
