Guwahati: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, has expressed grave concern over the escalating flood and landslide crisis gripping several northeastern states, triggered by incessant heavy rainfall.
Scindia affirmed the Centre’s commitment to provide full assistance to the affected regions, stating he is closely monitoring the situation.
The Union Minister has been actively engaging with state leaders to assess the ground realities. He spoke with Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang regarding the severe flood and landslide situation.
He said, “Assured him of every possible support from the Central government. We remain firmly committed to supporting the people of Sikkim in this challenging time.”
In a conversation with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Scindia reiterated the Union government’s pledge for all necessary assistance.
“Always with the resilient people of Assam in times of adversity. The Central Government stands firmly committed to extending all possible assistance for relief, rescue, and rehabilitation. In this hour of need, our prayers, thoughts and full support are with Assam,” Scindia posted on X.
Furthermore, Scindiam also spoke to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to take stock of the prevailing flood situation in the state, assuring unwavering assistance and timely relief and recovery for the affected people.
The DoNER minister also spoke with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha to discuss the ongoing flood situation in the state. He assured Chief Minister Saha of all possible support and assistance from the Centre to manage the crisis.
“The welfare and well-being of the people of Tripura and other parts of the region remain our top priority in this challenging time,” he stated.
The flood crisis in Assam has intensified, with relentless rainfall pushing river levels dangerously high and submerging more areas across the state. Seven major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are currently flowing above the danger mark.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that six more lives were lost on Tuesday in the districts of Hailakandi, Sribhumi, Morigaon, Cachar, Sonitpur, and Tinsukia, taking the death toll due to floods and landslides to 17.
