Dibrugarh University on Thursday formalised a new industry–academia partnership with the North Eastern Tea Association (NETA), signing a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding research, internships and placement opportunities for students, particularly those under the Centre for Management Studies (CMS).
The MoU was signed on December 4 in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jiten Hazarika.
Registrar Dr. Paramananda Sonowal represented the university, while NETA Chairman Ajay Dhandharia signed on behalf of the tea industry body.

CMS Chairperson Prof. Pratim Barua and faculty members attended the ceremony, describing the collaboration as a significant step towards strengthening academic engagement with the region’s tea sector.
Senior NETA representatives, including Adviser Bidyananda Barkakoty, Vice-Chairmen Neeraj Jallan and Rajkumar Borthakur, and Executive Committee member Vikash Agarwal, were also present.
University officials said the partnership will create new avenues for hands-on learning, industry exposure and sector-focused research, enriching the academic ecosystem and enabling students to gain direct insights into one of Northeast India’s key industries.
