Gonda (Uttar Pradesh): Six coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express were derailed on Thursday in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, officials said.
The Gonda district administration has rushed officials to the spot to oversee rescue operations, and is yet to say if there are any casualties.
About 300 passengers were trapped in the derailed coaches, the officials reported.
According to sources, six coaches of the Dibrugarh-bound passenger train were derailed between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations.
Out of six coaches, four AC coaches are said to be derailed in the accident.
Senior railway officials have also reached the spot to oversee rescue operations. But, they are yet to ascertain the cause of the derailment.
There is no information yet about the exact number of injuries. The administration sent a rescue team from Gonda.
The accident happened at around 2.35 PM, about 3 kms East of the Jhilahi railway station.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reportedly told Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that he has directed the officials to reach the spot immediately and expedite the relief work.
The UP Chief Minister has given instructions for proper treatment of the injured, the CMO said.
