NEW DELHI: Stepping up preparations ahead of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress’s top brass convened with the leaders from Assam to chart a comprehensive plan. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, on August 8, chaired the high-level meeting and directed party leaders in Assam to engage with the populace, shedding light on what they perceive as the “misgovernance” of the BJP.
The meeting held at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi saw the presence of key figures including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Assam Jitendra Singh, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Bhupen Borah, and Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi, among others.
Taking to a popular micro-blogging website post the meeting, Kharge posted, “In Assam, the Congress party is gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections. We are reinvigorating the organization. All leaders and workers must reach out to people and expose the misgovernance and incompetence of the BJP.”
Kharge further highlighted the historical contribution of the Congress to Assam’s development, emphasising that the party was responsible for laying the foundation of peace, progress, and welfare in the state. He expounded on the significance of the strategy meeting, indicating it was centered on addressing critical issues facing Assam.
Rahul Gandhi echoed the sentiment, underscoring the Congress’s commitment to peace and prosperity, which have long been the pillars of a progressive Assam. Gandhi drew a stark contrast by stating that the BJP’s “double-engine” governance had eroded these foundational pillars. He voiced determination to reverse this trend, bringing about positive change for the betterment of the people.
As part of its preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress is conducting strategy meetings for every state aiming to position itself as a viable alternative to the current administration.
