Guwahati: As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, Indian Army organised a two day mega event – Purvottar Swabhiman Utsav, on the theme of celebrating northeastern region’s contribution in nation building on November 20 and 21 in Guwahati.
The grand finale of Purvottar Swabhiman Utsav was organised on Monday at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. People from all states of Northeast India came to witness the event in large numbers.
The events for the day included a weapon and equipment display and adventure activities display by Armed Forces, fusion band concert and medley of cultural performances.
Special performance by musical sensations including Zubeen Garg, Priyanka Bharali and Tetseo Sisters, an extravagant musical theatrical followed by the first ever Drone Show at Guwahati.
During his welcome address, Lt Gen RP Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in- Chief of the Eastern Command, said the event will be an apt opportunity to spread awareness about role of unsung heroes of northeast in India’s independence struggle.
It is the first time that such a unique event has been conceived and the mega event is being supported by the state governments of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Sikkim and Nagaland.
The North Eastern Zone Cultural Council, ONGC and Indian Oil Corporation also took active part in the Purvottar Swabhiman Utsav.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu attended the programme of Purvottar Swabhiman Utsav on Sunday.
Both Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pema Khandu congratulated the Indian Army for bringing to the people of northeast a grand event that highlighted the important role they played in the progress of nation building.
The keynote address for the event was delivered by virtual media by the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, wherein he highlighted the stellar role played by the people of the northeastern region in nation building.
